Studiowała na Wydziale Malarstwa ASP w Warszawie (dyplom z wyróżnieniem w 1978 r, prac. Prof. J Tarasina). W latach 1978-1981 była członkiem eksperymentalnego teatru ,,Akademia Ruchu". W roku 2007 oraz 2020 otrzymała stypendium Ministerstwa Sztuki i Dziedzictwa Narodowego. Przez prawie osiem lat współprowadziła alternatywną galerię 2b+ R w Warszawie ( razem z Grzegorzem Rogalą, Klarą Kopcińską i Józefem Żukiem Piwkowskim) Od ukończenia studiów głównym nurtem jej twórczości pozostaje malarstwo.
W ostatnim okresie wraz z mężem Grzegorzem Rogalą tworzą instalacje interaktywne łaczące malarstwo Joanny z efektami komputerowymi. Instalacje były wystawiane na kilku wspólnych wystawach w kraju i za granicą. Dwie instalacje, których są autorami : "Muzyka dla parku" oraz "Antypody" można oglądać w na terenie Centrum Rzeźby Polskiej w Orońsku. Od roku 2011 prowadzi zajęcia z malarstwa w Wyższej Szkole Informatyki Stosowanej w Warszawie na Wydziale Grafiki. W swoim dorobku ma ponad trzydzieści wystaw indywidualnych.
She studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (diploma with honors in 1978, the work of Prof. J Tarasin). In the years 1978-1981 she was a member of the experimental theater "Akademia Ruchu". In 2007 and 2020, she received a scholarship from the Ministry of Art and National Heritage. For almost eight years, she co-ran the alternative 2b + R gallery in Warsaw (together with Grzegorz Rogala, Klara Kopcińska and Józef Żuk Piwkowski) Painting has remained the mainstream of her work since graduation. Recently, together with her husband Grzegorz Rogala, create interactive installations combining Joanna's paintings with computer effects. The installations were exhibited at several joint exhibitions in Poland and abroad. Two installations by their authors: "Music for the Park" and "Antipodes" can be seen at the Center of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko. Since 2011, she has been teaching painting at the University of Applied Computer Science in Warsaw, Faculty of Graphics. She has over thirty individual exhibitions in her portfolio.
